Chapters 1-4

Chapter Summary:

In the begining of the book Paul Bryant moves to Texas and starts his career at being the football coach at Texas A&M. When Bryan first arrived at Texas A&M he met some of the players and some of the doctors that would be helping him. Bryant was very firm and "mean" to the men that came to talk to him so that those men would respect Bryant and realize that he was the "boss." In the second chapter some of the boys' lives were told like; Don Watson, Dennis Goerhing, Willis Zapalac, Bebes Stallings, Bobby Drake Keith, and Billy Schroeder. Every boy had a different story that lead them to Texas A&M to play football. Some stories were tragic while others were just an everyday life in Texas. In chapter three the boys returned to Texas A&M to start their football career. When the boys returned Bryant told them to drop everything and just bring a blanket, toothbrush, and pillow with them and pile onto the two buses that were in front of them because they were going to Junction, Texas. He also told the boys not to let anyone know where they were going or what they were doing. The boys were completely confused and disturbed at what was happening but they listened anyway and pilled onto the buses. On the way there Dennis decided to speak up and tell the boys his experience with Junction. He told them his story with one of the girls he dated there and that there were many more than just her. The boys were very excited because they thought that they were going to have a good time and it was going to be like a vaction, but they were wrong. As they continued on their journey they noticed that everything was turning into desert. Bryant became upset because, how were they suppose to play football on dirt? In chapter four the boys arrived in Junction. They could not believe that there was a river that was flowing around the town because everywhere else the river had dried up. They had their fun by going swimming, playing cards, and getting comfortable in their bunks, but once Bryant said lights out they realized what they were really in for.

.....Thinking Question.....

Texas A&M was an all boys school when Junction Boys was written. Could you go to a school that was all the same sex?

  1. I think I could attended a same sex school, but I don't think I would want to. There are positives to attending both kinds of school. Attending a same sex school would allow you to focus more and be more into your school work. A co-ed school would get you used to the real world.

  2. I wouldn't want to go to a school where it is all the same sex. I think you would be missing to much compared to a public school. Their would be some positives to going their, but I don't believe it would be worth it.

  3. I don't think I could attend a same sex school. Co-ed is the way to go for me. Attending schools with just girls would be a disaster. All the drama, but then there might not be as much because boys and relationships aren't involved. I don't think the focus on my work would change but it could.

  4. I wouldn't want to, but I guess I could. I think it would be pretty boring to go to a school where it is all guys or all girls so I don't think that I would go to a same sex school.

  5. I think I would be able to attend a same sex school , but in reality i probablly couldn't. With an all girls school there is bound to be to lots of drama but also i would be able to concentrate better and get my work done, but i also don't like the pda of public school. There is a lot of comparing and contrasting that is needed to be done before i would make a decision.

  6. I don't think i would be able to go to an all girl school. I think there would be way to much drama, and there would probably be rumors going around about something really stupid. The other thing that would be hard for me going to the same sex school would be that i don't really have that many girl-friends. I get along better with guys then i do girls, so that would be the worst part for me. On the good side of it, i could see myself getting better grades and getting farther in life.

  8. I dont think i would be able to go to an all girls school because I can already tell you that there would be way too much bickering. Although if i did go to an all girls school i think i might be able to get more of my homework done.
